Priya Nembhard - Author, Erookie Founder, Marathon Chick and Astronaut?
Holy spacenuts!! Priya Nembhard's been called a lot of things, author, Guyana queen, Orangewoman, mom in business, WAHM (work at home mom). Let's add Marathon Chick and astronaut while we're at it. Just check her social circles, it's pretty funny what friends actually think she does as a mom and business owner. Those speculations gave birth to that humorous graphic below. One twitter fan called it "how cute."
A suitable category to stick her in could be new bionic woman or business mutant shape shifter? For formalities sake we'll call her Erookie founder and author of "Diapers to Dollars: Work at Home Mom Success Guide." Her book is the testimonial, tutorial, and go-to guide for working moms and homemakers seeking financial success from the comfort of home and family, while escaping the rat race.
Her desire to help wealth-minded moms and entrepreneurs in general, stem from her own struggle morphing from 9 to 5 mom to motivated startup business owner. She's a proud marathon runner who completed her first ING Half Marathon on January 29th, 2012. That event turbo charged her entrepreneurial spirit even more. from 6am to 10:30am officially ending 13 miles in 3 hours 35 minutes. It wasn't the fastest time, but she did it and owned it. Pretty amazing considering out of 25,000 runners over 10,000 gave up or took the bus to the finish line.

What's the real connection between a marathon chick and a woman business owner? It's not about being an adrenaline junkie or woman with business sex appeal. I've never ran a marathon but I've had my share of running track and field back in school, being a dedicated martial artist, and weight training diehard. If you lack drive or physically challenged in any way, a good marathon run could be the motivation injection you need. It creates discipline and focus period. In Priya's quest to the ING Marathon, here's the routine I observed 4 months leading up to the finish line.
- Got up every Saturday at 4am for 4 consecutive months to jog with the Tropical Trotters. (I stayed home, watched the kids, made breakfast, and do some work)
- Sipped a ton of electrolytes (Coconut water seem to be an ideal drink)
- Summoned the yoga gods each week for killer stretches for maximum results. (Great flexibility is now a welcomed side effect)
- Totally changing the way she eats. As her husband I get a front row seat to all this, and I had to actively participate for moral support. So I'm chowing down brown rice and other super healthy stuff with her.
- Broke out a killer playlist. Priya's got a pretty broad mix of music in her mp3 playlist, maybe Chaka Khan's hit song "I'm Every Woman" is somewhere in there. According to her, after this last marathon and a few dozen more to come, the next goal is way out of this world, LITERALLY!!! She wants to be an astronaut, which is why she's developed such an astronaut's mentality for startup business. Everyone thinks it's a joke or wishful thinking, but remember teacher Christa Mcauliffe from space shuttle Challenger 1986? Anything's possible and entrepreneur Richard Branson is building a commercial spaceship for regular folks so you never know.
Being a successful mom in business, humanitarian, and marathon runner could be the final frontier for Priya, but why stop there? Space!!! The final frontier!!!
